About the Video Series

The Alliance for Competitive Power's video series offers a compelling narrative that underscores the critical role of energy choice and market competition. Through real-world stories from states like Ohio, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, these videos illuminate how energy policies and the structure of power markets directly impact consumers, businesses, and communities.

These videos make complex energy issues relatable and emphasizes the tangible benefits of competitive energy markets, such as innovation, cost savings, and enhanced reliability.

Who is ACP?

We are an advocacy organization dedicated to ensuring that everyone has access to reliable, affordable energy through fair competition and transparent policies. We fight against monopoly control and insider deals that drive up costs for consumers, advocating instead for reforms that promote energy choice, modern infrastructure, and a power grid built for the future by putting energy decisions back in the hands of the people, ensuring lower prices and dependable service across America.

Ohio

In Ohio, we fought to end the era of monopoly control in the energy sector. We pushed for bold, forward-looking reforms that promote fair competition, drive down prices, and modernize the power grid. Cutting red tape—putting power back in the hands of Ohioans, where it belongs.

On May 15, 2025, Governor Mike DeWine signed into law Ohio’s new 21st Century Energy Policy, a measure unanimously passed by the Ohio Senate to enhance the state’s energy reliability, affordability, and accountability.

New Jersey

In New Jersey, we’re fighting for energy choice and affordability for families facing significant electricity rate hikes—up to 20% starting June 1, 2025. These increases are driven by rising demand from data centers and a backlog of clean energy projects awaiting grid integration. We’re advocating for reforms that expedite the connection of renewable energy sources to the grid, enhance transparency in rate-setting processes, and ensure that New Jerseyans aren’t unfairly burdened by costs stemming from regional energy infrastructure challenges. Our goal is to empower New Jersey families with reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy choices.

Maryland

In Maryland, we’re advocating for the preservation and strengthening of a competitive energy market that empowers families with choice and fosters savings. The state’s energy deregulation, initiated in 1999, opened the market to independent suppliers, leading to increased competition and innovation. However, recent legislative efforts, such as the consumer protection bill passed by the Maryland Senate, aim to cap prices and impose stricter regulations on retail energy suppliers. While these measures intend to protect consumers from deceptive practices, critics argue they may inadvertently reduce competition and limit consumer options. We believe that maintaining a balanced approach—ensuring robust consumer protections without stifling competition—is essential for delivering affordable, reliable, and clean energy to Maryland families.

Pennsylvania

In Pennsylvania, we’re fighting to protect the competitive energy market that has delivered cleaner power, private investment, and consumer savings since the state restructured its electricity generation system. This forward-thinking model has allowed independent producers to build modern infrastructure without relying on ratepayer funding—ensuring that families and businesses benefit from innovation, efficiency, and choice. Now, that progress is under threat from efforts to restore monopoly utility control, which would eliminate competition, transfer financial risk to consumers, and guarantee profits for utilities regardless of performance. We’re advocating for policies that keep Pennsylvania’s energy future in the hands of its people—supporting private investment, innovation, and a market-driven approach that delivers reliable, affordable electricity without going back to the failures of monopoly control.
